Iron Lung is a new horror movie inspired by the video game of the same name. I think the movie did the horror part super well, and implemented the games world very thoroughly. Basically, the first 15 minutes of the movie is the main character playing the game. Practically all of the movie takes place in the submarine Iron Lung, which is not a weakness since it plays a key part in the story and themes. The movie does a really good job at building tension. One way it does this is by disorienting the viewer and keeping them on their toes, which may be a strength or weakness depending on the viewer.
I think one of the biggest flaws (or strengths) of the movie is the story. The story of the movie can be hard to follow at times, and may leave the viewer with a lot of questions, especially if they haven’t played the game. However, I don’t really think this is a flaw since a theme of the movie is not being able to really discern what is real and what is not as the main character descends further into the blood ocean.
A few things I didn’t like about the movie were some of the flashback scenes, and I think the movie should’ve had a clearer introduction. Somethings that I’m still confused about is the character’s backstory and some of the other characters/groups intentions.
Iron Lung is rated R, so you’ll need to be 17 or older or accompanied by an adult to see this movie in a theater.
